Richard Whittenburg, known as Whitty (rhymes with itty, bitty, nitty, gritty, ditty, and a couple of more words) started his career as a photographer after riding bulls and some bareback horses until he was 34 years of age. He started taking pictures of family and 4-H projects, picking up the local county livestock show then growing into larger shows and getting back into the rodeo arena. His experience rodeoing and growing up with cattle enable him to take the quality pictures that he takes.
He has been the official photographer at many of the Southwest Region NIRA rodeos, the NIRA Finale at Hobbs, New Mexico, the Kansas Pro Rodeo Association Finals, Cowboys of Color Finals, many Texas Cowboy Rodeo Association rodeos, South Plains Fair, San Angelo Stock Show, and the Arkansas State Fair.
